Impact: We have had reports of some customers being unable to purchase vouchers online.

The error message is: Please provide your card security code. This is the 3 or 4 digit code on your card.

This may be related to the browser that you are using. If you do have an alternate browser, please test with it. Alternatively you can call Customer Service on 1300 301 325 to purchase a card.

What: Errors connecting

Impact: Some Optus Dial up customers are receiving error 678 or 676 when dialling in. This refers to the number being busy. You can test dial 0198331111 from you phone handset to confirm this. Optus are aware of this error and are working to resolve it. Please try dialling in again as there is a good chance it will connect.

What: SPAM Emails

Additional Info: OptusNet have seen a large increase of spam over the last couple of days. A number of the emails appear to sent by the receiver.

Many viruses use a technique known as spoofing. The viruses randomly select an address that it finds on an infected computer. It uses this address as the FROM address that it uses when it performs its mass-mailing routine.

There are also some spammers that will make it appear that you have sent the spam yourself. This is just one of the tools they use to make it appear that the email they are sending is legitimate (usually in an attempt to get past spam filtering programs).

We suggest customers disregard & delete these emails. These emails should not be forwarded.

If there are any concerns over the safety of your computer, please ensure you have an up to date Anti Virus program installed & run a full system scan.

What: Hoax / Phishing Emails

Additional Info: Optus customers have recently been targeted with a variety of phishing emails. These emails are a hoax and are not sent by Optus.

These emails can come in a variety of forms that includes:

- Asking you to click on a link that may take you to a false Optuszoo website.

- Asking you to reply to an email that is not an @optusnet.com.au email address

- Asking you to provide personal information such as: full name, date of birth, password

A lot of times these hoax emails will say that if you do not follow the instructions, your internet account will be closed.

Optus will never ask customers for a password via email. Please simply disregard & delete any hoax emails that you may receive.

Customers who have received the email and are concerned should contact Optusnet Customer Service on 13 39 37.
